Fund-raising in Rittenhouse Square

Steve and I set out to fund-raise at Rittenhouse Square in Center City, Philadelphia today. Thanks to our program director, Brendan Newman, we were able to set up our bikes on his stationary trainer while promoting the cause. While we were out, we ran into a 2010 Bike and Builder, undergraduate classmates, a group of 50 rollerbladers doing their weekly Sunday ride, and people who were simply impressed and interested to learn about what we were doing. One man suggested that we use our biking power to generate usable energy. Another said we've got to have a focused training regimen, while another shared his cross country bike trip with us. One five year old girl was eager to find a way to get onto Steve's bike, despite us telling her it was too big for her.

We had a successful day. After only 3 hours in the park, we made over $225.

We will be out biking more this week during The Free Library's Philadelphia Book Festival. Tina Fey will be out promoting her new book, Bossypants this Tuesday evening, and there will be a Festival Street Fair this Saturday. We are hoping to meet some great people and share our cause with them.
